Background Info on Classes

Heritage Spinning & Weaving hosts classes to expand skills, interest, and awareness in spinning, weaving, knitting, felting, and related arts and crafts for individuals of all skill levels. Our intent is to provide a nurturing, dynamic learning environment that sparks creativity and inspiration.

Register for classes by mail, email, fax, or calling the shop. If you like, you can print our registration form from the website, and mail or bring it in. You must be pre-registered to take a class; no walk-ins will be accepted.

Location and Supplies: All classes are held at our store unless otherwise indicated. Supplies are available for purchase in the shop on the day of the class. A supply list will be provided at registration.

Basic knitting tools (minimum requirements): Chibi (yarn darner), small sharp scissors, crochet hooks (same gauge or one size smaller than your project needles), stitch markers (locking and ring markers are best), point protectors, stitch holders, calculator, tape measure, needle gauge, pen and/or pencil and paper for notes.

Payment: Payment must be made at time of registration. Payment via cash or check is preferred, but we cheerfully accept Visa, MasterCard, and debit cards. Please note that many classes also have materials fees, or require a particular book; check with the store when you make your reservation.

Cancellations: If you cancel a week or more before the beginning date of the class, all monies will be refunded. If you cancel with less than a week’s notice, you will receive a 50% refund. The cost of the class is neither refundable nor transferable once the class has begun. A full refund of all monies will be made if we cancel a class.

Meals: Day-long classes all have a 45 minute to one hour lunch break. Eat on the town or bring your lunch. Microwave and fridge available.

Skill Levels

You will notice in the class listings that all classes have a number. The first digit of each class number is equivalent to the level of skill required to benefit from the class. We've also just added balls of yarn pictures: one ball for level 0, two balls for level 1, etc. Lower numbers require fewer skills than higher numbers. Don't let them put you off from taking a class; rather, let them be your guide.

Crawl, Walk, Run!!!

Our knitters often ask what's next. Here's what we tell them: After taking beginning knitting or if you've just returned to knitting after an absence, a good next step is the "Baby Albert (Einstein) Sweater" class. It teaches picking up stitches, modifying patterns, button holes, and includes a discussion on color. An alternate or a next step is the "Fish Sweater". The class textbook is "The Sweater Workshop" by Jacqueline Fee and the project is the sweater sampler included in that book. It is a great confidence builder. With these classes and a minimum of two to four projects under your belt, you are then ready for Knitting Boot Camp. Following that, you should be perfectly equipped for just about any knitting project.
