This class teaches you the language of weaving, project planning, loom management, dressing the loom, and everything you need to successfully weave two projects in class. The project is a small tote bag sampler. You'll learn about project planning, measuring a warp, dressing the loom and how to make a variety of patterns. 0404 Understanding Yarn and FibersDates: Saturday, February 28, 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, sessions Have you struggled with trying to match a yarn to a project? This class will give you hands-on experience in making a fiber selection. We'll look at the properties of all of the common fibers and you will receive a knittable (or weavable on a Weavette) sample of many. In addition, we'll talk about fiber blends - what works and what doesn't, weights of yarn according to various systems, and spinning and plying styles. Not just a lecture - you will have a piece of yarn in your hands that you can look at and feel as its properties are discussed. Required supplies and equipment: Bring all your knitting needles. If you do not knit, bring a small Weavette or prewarped rigid heddle with a narrow warp set at 10 or 12 epi with fingering weight wool or cotton. 0803 Inkle Weaving in the 21st Century: an introduction to inkle weavingDates, 2009:Friday March 13, 2009 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The inkle loom is one of the simplest looms around and its amazing potential is often overlooked and undervalued. This studio class is a combination of presentation and hands-on work. Participants will observe new ways to design and create bands for traditional and non-traditional uses and set up their inkle looms to create bands, trim, and ribbon that may be used Required equipment: Supply List Supply Fee and List: $5.00 payable to instructor Robin Spady, $80 class fee, yarn included
3820 Pictures, Piles, Potpourri, and Perplexing CuriositiesDates, 2009:Saturday-Monday March 14,15, and 16, 2009 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This is a workshop designed for intermediate-to-advanced weavers (and adventure-seeking beginners) that want to learn new weave structures. In this round-robin workshop, participants will expand their knowledge and experience in weave structures they may have heard of but, may not have woven. A surefire weaving adventure and challenging journey of warp and weft. Structures covered include multi-block swivel and bead leno, corduroy, velvet, samitum, corkscrew twills, lampas, and Beiderwand.

1815 Open WeavingDates: Mondays, 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, sessions We now have "Open Weaving" every Monday evening from 6 to 9. Come to learn to weave, learn new techniques, have company while you weave, to set aside some time for weaving or just because you love Sammie! Now you don't have to wait for a beginning weaving class to get started weaving. If you are returning weaver (you did it in the 80s and you haven't done it since), took a beginning weaving class and haven't done it since, or just need a little freshening of your skills, this is the perfect place to come. Only have a four shaft loom at home but have an 8-shaft project in mind? Reserve the Baby Wolf. We have five looms available for use and can accommodate six people per week (obviously, one person will have to bring their own loom). The cost is $20 per week as long as you have something on the loom. You may also weave during the week as long as the shop is open and you don't need assistance.
